TGEmu

TGEmu features reasonably good compatibility with PC Engine HuCards. While this release does not support CD-ROM based software, this will be included in a future release. Sound emulation is supported. Also, the emulator can use Gzip compressed ROMs transparently.

Vecx

Vecx can run just about all the Vectrex software out there, and the Mac OS X version includes sound emulation. This initial release does not support overlays, however I will add this in the future if enough people are interested.

ViBE

The Nintendo Virtual Boy was a 3D headset-style console released by Nintendo in 1995. It never sold well, largely due to the display system, which caused severe headaches on prolonged use. ViBE finally allows the games for this platform to stand on their own merits, and with a pair of 3D glasses it is even possible to play the games as the designers intended. ViBE is the best Virtual Boy emulator for any platform at the time of writing, featuring full sound and excellent compatibility.

Rainbow

Rainbow was one of the first emulators available for Macintosh. Despite this, it has fairly good compatibility with original software. The Mac OS X version adds an improved GUI and significantly improved sound to the original version.

Oric

Oric emulates an Oric 1 and an Oric Atmos. It supports full cycle exact sound, allowing speech effects such as that in Megademo to work perfectly, and almost perfect compatibility with a real Oric.

Oswan

Oswan is the only Bandai Wonderswan emulator for the Mac, supporting both the colour and black and white models. As of the latest release the emulation is almost perfect, with the vast majority of known titles working correctly.

SimCoupe

SimCoupe emulates the original SAM Coupe 512K computer. It is also able to function as a Spectrum emulator because the hardware is very similar. Sound support is now included, using the SAA1099 core by Juergen Buchmueller and Manuel Abadia. Please note that this a seperate branch of the SimCoupe code to the current SDL based version.

SMS Plus

The hardware for the Sega Master System and Game Gear consoles is almost identical from a technical standpoint, a feature that helped develop the software library for both platforms. All classic titles can be emulated without problems in SMS Plus, including several which give inferior emulators trouble.

TEO

TEO

Like its partners MO5 and Thom, TEO features accurate emulation and full sound. Mouse and Light Pen emulation is included, along with support for Disk images, Tape images, Cartridges, and RAM Images.

Mugrat

For many years now I have been porting emulators by other others to Mac OS. Mugrat marks my first attempt at writing one of my own, in this case to emulate the Colecovision. The hardware in question is quite possibly the simplest machine to be built around the Z80 processor, which makes it simple to emulate. Maybe I'll try something more complicated for my next project!

Nestopia

Nestopia is the current king of the NES emulation hill. It uses highly optimized cycle exact emulation, allowing it to run titles that rely on precise timing, many of which break under inferior emulators. This accurate emulation does come at a cost; Nestopia requires a minimum of a 600MHz machine for full speed; but if you have one, this the best available NES emulation for Mac.

Neopocott

Neopocott is a relatively new NGPC emulator, with limited compatibility at present and no support for sound. However, it can emulate Sonic the Hedgehog properly, and that's all that matters!

O2Em

O2Em

O2Em runs just about all the existing software with reasonable sound support - with only one or two titles that do not run well. Recent versions also support emulation of the Videopac G7400+.

Horizon

Horizon (formerly MacBeebEm) was one of the first emulators available for Macintosh. Despite this, it has fairly good compatibility with original BBC software, allowing you to play titles such as Elite without problems. The Mac OS X version adds an improved GUI and significantly improved sound to the original version.
